THE MERRY MARVEL MARCHING SOCIETY HAS A SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR YOU
In 1965, Marvel Comics was taking the comics world by storm, led by the likes of Stan “The Man’ Lee, Jack “The King Kirby, Wally Wood, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, Chic Stone, and other silver age titans in the infamous “Marvel Bullpen.” In those early days, Marvel started the “Merry Marvel Marching Soceity” fanclub for the readers, and one of the goodies the M.M.M.S mailed out to its members was this little nugget of audio gold:
This was a long before the days of Disney suits patrolling the halls coordinating Marvel-themed amusement park merchandise; Avi Arad raiding the character archives and signing them all away to various Hollywood studios; Kevin Feige meeting with editors to make sure the comics reflected costume designs from Marvel Studios’ films; digital sales strategies; and countless other corporate mandates.
The folks on this record were just a bunch of hardworking guys (and gals) with easels, bristol boards, pencils, inks, and boundless imaginations. They knew nothing of corporate synergy, they were just trying to put food on their families’ tables - and in doing so - they laid the foundations for the multi-billion dollar entertainment empire we enjoy today.
