TRAILER FOR THE CW’S ‘ARROW’

Arrow is the title of the CW Network’s latest attempt to make a DC Comics character that’s been around for 80 years appealable to teenage girls (you may remember their previous foray into the world of badly-written superhero shows, Smallville), and the network has released another promotional trailer for the series that delves into character’s “Robinson Crusoe” origins.

The CW has stumbled onto some kismet here in terms of the timing for Arrow, as archery is suddenly one of the hottest things going in America, thanks to The Hunger Games, Brave, and Hawkeye in The Avengers. Justin Hartley’s version of Green Arrow from Smallville was already very popular (and one of the reasons that show stayed on about 5 seasons longer than it should have), so the popularity of shooting arrows at people is a nice added bonus for the fledgling production.

The show also appears to be steering away from the smoldering looks of anguished longing between two impossibly good-looking 20-somethings, towards the dreaded “grim n’ gritty” territory. The colors are all washed out, there’s shadows and hoods and dust everywhere, and there’s some intense brooding from star Stephen Amell. Lots and lots of intense brooding.

Arrow ( I imagine they dropped the “Green” so people wouldn’t confuse it with a terrible Ryan Reynolds or Seth Rogan movie and immediately turn the channel) premieres on the CW on October 10.

Jeff is the defining voice of his generation. Sadly, that generation exists only in an alternate dimension where George Lucas became supreme overlord of the Earth in 1979 and replaced every television broadcast and theatrical film on the planet with Star Wars and Godzilla movies. In this dimension, he’s just a guy from New England who likes writing snarky things about superheroes, monsters, and robots.
