TRAILER FOR ‘THE BAY’

I have to say, I got really excited when I saw the title for this new film. “Finally,” I thought. “Here’s the sensationalist biopic of Michael Bay that I’ve been waiting for!” Sadly, The Bay is not the life story of a juvenile, egomaniac director with a predilection for offensive racial stereotypes and military hardware — it’s just a “found footage” film about water-borne parasites that infect people in a small Maryland community on Chesapeake Bay. *sigh*

The movie looks to be a riff on Jaws, in that the mayor of the town refuses to shut down a recreational area and sacrifice vital tourist dollars due to a water-borne threat. Throw in the found-footage tropes of films like Chronicle, Blair With Project, Cloverfield, and Paranormal Actvity, and voila! You’ve got…umm, something that can best be described as The Paranormal Cloverjaws Project. The film is directed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Sleepers, Sphere), and produced by the Paranormal Activity team (shocker) of Oren Peli, Jason Blum, and Steve Schneider. Look for it on November 2nd, 2012.

Jeff is the defining voice of his generation. Sadly, that generation exists only in an alternate dimension where George Lucas became supreme overlord of the Earth in 1979 and replaced every television broadcast and theatrical film on the planet with Star Wars and Godzilla movies. In this dimension, he’s just a guy from New England who likes writing snarky things about superheroes, monsters, and robots.
