Take this with a HUGE grain of salt – I’m talkin’ giant Indiana Jones temple boulder grain of salt – but British Tabloid The UK Daily Mail reported that not only is Ms. Marvel going to be in Avengers 2, but that two actress are already competing for the role:

“British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in a race for the most sought-after new female role in Hollywood.

Emily, 29, below, star of The  Young Victoria, and Ruth, 30, from TV’s Luther, are both  hotly tipped to play superhero Ms Marvel in Avengers 2, the sequel to Avengers Assemble, one of the biggest box office hits of all time.

The new movie is due to begin shooting next year. Whoever is chosen will star alongside Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth, who will reprise their comic-book hero roles.”

I have no earthly idea who Ruth Wilson is, but Emily Blunt’s name keeps popping up in connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was cast as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 back in 2009, but then had to drop out of the role due to scheduling conflicts with that cinematic explosive bowel movement Gulliver’s Travels. She was then offered the part of Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, but reportedly turned it down for some unknown reason. (Whatever reason it was, Emily, thank you for stepping aside for Ms. Haley Atwell…)

*Swooooooooooon*

Now, this whole thing is more than likely 100% fabricated bullshit, but Someone at Marvel Studios – possibly studio head Kevin Feige – seems to have a serious Emily Blunt fixation, so it appears inevitable that she’ll show up in a Marvel film someday. I just hope it’s not as Ms. Marvel, because Blunt doesn’t feel right for the character. I have nothing against her – she was fantastic in Looper - but I can’t see it for some reason. What do you Leaguers think?
