So, I was way off yesterday when I said we probably wouldn’t see the first Thor: The Dark World trailer until it debuted in front of Iron Man 3, because — as you can see — it’s already here! The thing that is immediately apparent is the grim n’ gritty visual aesthetic, which is completely different from the first film. Director Alan Taylor, who cut his teeth helming the early episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, has stripped Earth and Asgard of its color, plunging Thor’s world into a grey, damp, ashen mire. The scale looks impressive, and there’s a great exchange between Thor and Loki at the end. But I think we can all agree the most awesome thing in this early trailer is…Loki’s glam metal band hair! Damn, it is FABULOUS. I wonder what conditioner he uses?
Jeff is the defining voice of his generation. Sadly, that generation exists only in an alternate dimension where George Lucas became supreme overlord of the Earth in 1979 and replaced every television broadcast and theatrical film on the planet with Star Wars and Godzilla movies. In this dimension, he’s just a guy from New England who likes writing snarky things about superheroes, monsters, and robots.
