H. Jon Benjamin Voicing HAL From 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY Is The Best Thing Ever

I don’t think it’s possible to love an animation voice actor any more than I love H. Jon Benjamin. I mean, the guy voices Archer, Bob on Bob’s Burgers, Dr. Orpheus’ Master on Venture Bros., and has popped up as a billion other supporting characters in various “mature” cartoons. He has a distinctive, low-key delivery, but it somehow conveys a range of emtions, from rage to sarcasm to pathos. He can be the biggest asshole in the universe (Archer), and the most sympathetic schlub on the block (Bob’s Burgers). Regardless of what he’s doing, it’s always instantly recognizable and instantly awesome. The only thing I can think of that might top his animation work is if someone replaced HAL’s voice from 2001: A Space Odyssey with with his — and oh hey, someone did. Thanks, Internet!

Jeff is the defining voice of his generation. Sadly, that generation exists only in an alternate dimension where George Lucas became supreme overlord of the Earth in 1979 and replaced every television broadcast and theatrical film on the planet with Star Wars and Godzilla movies. In this dimension, he’s just a guy from New England who likes writing snarky things about superheroes, monsters, and robots.
